Update 1: Basement Wet Bar Demolition

We love our basement wet bar space. This project was actually not part of our renovation plan but once we realized our creepy corner basement closet actually had a sink in it we changed plans to make this a modern basement wet bar!

No joke, when we toured our house we never looked in that corner closet. It likely was meant to be a wet bar but the previous owners were only using that closet for their home business file storage.

We decided to open the entire closet opening up to the ceiling and out as far as we could. We also had no need for the installed peg board which came out as soon as we could figure out how to do it (!!).

There was a lot going on behind those closet doors that we stripped out. We pulled out the shelving installed by the previous owners and just look at the lovely pea green laminate countertop and outdated cabinets! What you don't see is the ancient green lighting fixture I removed the second we moved in.

After patching and priming the walls and ceiling we pulled out the old cabinets. I found a light fixture from Menards that I loved and used as my inspiration for the rest of the space.

Going as basic (and cheap) as possible we picked out some stock unfinished cabinets from Menards - a double and single base cabinet that would fit the space nicely and leave just enough room for a beverage fridge. We knew we wanted a butcher block countertop and I found a very affordable one from IKEA. We needed to cut it to length but otherwise it was a perfect fit!

I found the beverage fridge of my dreams from Best Buy which actually came at the recommendation from a friend so I knew it had to be great.

Next steps: Start putting together the wet bar! Check out my next post on the wet bar progress to see how this wet bar was finally brought to life.
