Split Level Basement Renovation

It took a lot of work to make our split-level basement functional for our family.
Our basement had been converted into a home business space by the previous owners.

A lot of work clearly went into this space but it was not going to work for our family.

From the minute we moved in we knew this would be the first job that we would tackle.

Between the lighting and the MANY built-ins this project was going to be well outside our comfort zone!

I loved the fireplace and knew that was going to be a focal point for the room once we were through!

Talk about custom IKEA cabinet! These were everywhere 😂

DEMO DAY!!

More like demo WEEKS 🤦

Still demoing over here

We filled up 2 dumpsters worth of basement!

Slowly making progress:
Removed the carpet
Removed lighting
Removed all half walls and office shelving
Put in a built-in multi-purpose shelf
Demoed the old wet bar closet (on the left)
Scraped the popcorn ceilings (the worst job EVER) 😅

Progress continues:
Added canned lights (on dimmers)
Painted the entire space with SW Repose Gray (favorite)
Installed and painted bead board trim SW Snowbound (also favorite)
Installed new wet bar (not seen here)

Progress continues:
Added white trim throughout
Carpet installed!
Finally allowing my kids to play down here (it's safe!)

Painted the brown window trim SW Snowbound to match the rest of the room and bought furniture to complete the space.

Shelves complete and filled up with ALL of the things. Need to re-work these guys but you get the idea 😀

Wet bar complete and it WORKS! Who needs a beer ✋

Office space corner also functioning and ready to go!

Multi-functional work space ALSO vastly different from where we started.

Kids space is a must!

And finally got the fireplace into a spot that I had been dreaming of since we walked into this room during our home tour.

What's your favorite part? Would you have done anything differently?
