Split Level Home Exterior Transformation

Coming home to this view is not going to get old. I hated the exterior of my home for so long I didn't realize something seemingly so simple could bring me so much joy!

We bought this home for a lot of great reasons but curb appeal was definitely not one of them. Doesn't this just scream 1907's split level? Also, the mounds of snow don't really help 😂

We quickly made some updates which included removing all overgrown shrubbery, brand new WHITE gutters (don't worry we had a plan) and spray painting our exterior lighting from brass to matte black - post details here.

Also, spray painted our maroon double doors a nice matte black - check out the details of that post here.

It was finally time to paint the house! I looked into upgrading to aluminum siding and that was not going to work with my budget. Our cedar siding was in pretty good shape so we decided to give it a facelift. We knew we were going to do white trim (have you seen our gutters 😉) just needed to pick the primary color. What color do you like the best?

While we contemplated our color choices we started making small edits to the exterior updating it into this century. We removed the decorative corner pieces framing in our garage and front entry way.

Updated some cedar batten strips

The biggest change was to remove the decorative cedar board strips and the peaked board that was center with the front door.

We got the entire house power washed and removed the very outdated cedar shutters from the front.

Day one and the impact is mind boggling. Also, those plastic tarps over the windows are no joke from the inside! I was home all day when they covered the windows and slowly went crazy not being able to look out of them!

The painters took only three days to help transform our worn out house.

Painting all trim, soffits, exterior doors Sherwin Williams Alabaster White and the base house color Sherwin William Sage Green Light with duration paint.

Front step is starting to POP!

The story of our exterior upgrade has just begun. We are now talking about different shutters and a brick upgrade. For now this is just the place I want to be.
